Cast!

We've gotten several bites on our craigslist posting for two male actors. Nate and I got together on Saturday to whittle them down, and settled on two guys that couldn't possibly be roommates in the real world. Hopefully it'll give a slight "odd couple" vibe to the apartment scene. I'll post links to their bios when they commit.

Nate has the script at home and is getting it properly formatted. When that's done, I'll put it up as well.

New Movie Project

Nate and I are putting together a short film for a Northwest Film Forum project based on an old game called "The Exquisite Corpse". From their site:

This quarter’s filmmaking challenge is a film version of the surrealist game Exquisite Corpse. Participants will be free to film anything they want, but will begin and end their segments with images chosen randomly out of a hat. For example, one person might pick from a hat a slip that says "Begin with man with a hat/ End with barking dog." This is how they begin and end their film. Another person will draw a slip that says "Begin with barking dog/ End with girl riding a bike." What happens in the interim will be the filmmaker's choice. The finished films will be shown in sequence with the chosen images anchoring the films together.

Should be a lot of fun. Our segment is "Begin with a boy standing on his head/End with a train going by". So naturally, I wrote a 5-minute rom-com. Ha! Two people from our day job have been cast: Shereen Alibhai as the love interest, and Ginny Humphrey's son Corbin as the little boy that stands on his head. Locations are: my apartment, and Dad Watson's in Fremont. Nate and I still need to find some kind of pastoral setting for the first scene, and we're thinking about a winery. We'll probably head out to Woodinville this weekend to scout. And drink.

Deadline is 4/28. Watch this space!

"Remove sick monster baby movie from Queue?"

I got about 1/3 of the way through Eraserhead and had to turn it off. Something about limb-less half-human half-fish babies crying in the dark just doesn't qualify as entertainment.

Top o' the mornin'!

Tomorrow morning at 6:15 Nate, Michelle, and I will be at Fado Irish Pub in Pioneer Square drinking Guinness and watching the 6 Nations rugby matches live via satellite. It's the third time we've done it. Having a beer that early is a bit odd, but it feels natural when you're in a place as cool as Fado, surrounded by a bunch of other die hard rugby fans.

So needless to say, tonight's Friday Night Drink is WATER.

Roll sound...

So here it is. High time to begin documenting my struggles and successes with all things cinematic and musical. My brother Nathan and I run a small "movie studio" called Resonance Digital Arts and are working on our second short film. We've been doing this for almost five years now. I normally take on the role of Producer/Gaffer/Composer, while Nate does the Camera Operator/Director/Editor gig. We both write.

I also play mediocre keyboards/piano. I'm sitting here in front of my brand new Kurzweil PC3x with my Who Killed Amanda Palmer songbook open to page 8, the first page of "Astronaut".  It's not too difficult once you figure out what the black dots are doing. I hope to write a lot of "ZOMG listen to this!" posts.
